Itinerary

Day 1 - Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech

Your adventure begins with a comfortable pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech or directly from the village of Imlil, depending on your chosen departure option. After a scenic drive through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, you arrive in Imlil (1,740 metres), the famous mountain village known as the gateway to Mount Toubkal National Park.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your professional local mountain guide from Toubkal-Treks.com, who will introduce you to the day’s hiking route before setting off along peaceful mountain trails that have been used by local villagers for generations.

The trail gradually climbs through some of the most picturesque landscapes in the Atlas Mountains. Passing traditional Amazigh villages such as Ait Souka, Armed, and surrounding hamlets, you’ll witness everyday mountain life as local families tend their orchards, cultivate terraced fields, bake traditional bread, and herd goats and mules across the hillsides. Your guide will share fascinating stories about Amazigh history, architecture, farming techniques, customs, and the unique way of life that has shaped these mountain communities for centuries.

As you continue along the route, the scenery changes constantly. Walnut forests, apple orchards, cherry trees, ancient irrigation channels, wildflowers during spring, and dramatic rocky cliffs provide endless opportunities for photography. Throughout the hike, spectacular views of Mount Toubkal and the surrounding snow-capped peaks dominate the landscape, offering some of the finest panoramas in the High Atlas Mountains.

The trail eventually leads to one of Imlil Valley’s beautiful mountain waterfalls. Surrounded by fresh mountain air, crystal-clear streams, and peaceful natural scenery, this hidden gem provides the perfect place to pause and appreciate the tranquility of the mountains. During spring and early summer, the waterfalls flow at their strongest, creating a refreshing atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the warm climate of Marrakech.

After enjoying the waterfalls, you continue to a welcoming Amazigh family home or a traditional guesthouse overlooking the valley, where a delicious homemade lunch is served. Prepared using locally sourced ingredients, your meal may include Moroccan tagine, seasonal salads, freshly baked bread, olives, fruit, and traditional mint tea. This relaxing break offers an excellent opportunity to experience genuine Moroccan hospitality while admiring the magnificent mountain scenery.

Following lunch, the hike continues along a different scenic route, allowing you to discover more hidden corners of the valley before returning to Imlil. Along the way, your guide points out local plants, ancient irrigation systems, mountain wildlife, and explains how the people of the High Atlas have adapted to life in this remarkable environment for hundreds of years.

Once back in Imlil, there is time to relax before meeting your driver for the return journey to Marrakech, bringing an unforgettable day of culture, nature, and mountain adventure to a close.
