3-Day Fun Trek in the Atlas Mountains Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech → Aguersioual → Trek to Azzaden Valley
Distance/duration: Approx. 4–5 hours of walking | Drive: approx. 1.5–2 hours from Marrakech | Elevation range: 1,600m – 1,900m (approx.)
Your adventure begins with an early pick-up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Drive south via Tahannaout and Asni into the foothills of the High Atlas, arriving at the trailhead village of Aguersioual (approx. 1,600m). Here you’ll meet your mountain guide and muleteer over a welcome glass of mint tea before setting off on foot.
The trail leads you up and along the valley, passing walnut groves, terraced fields, and small Berber hamlets as you gain height toward the Azzaden Valley, one of the quieter and more remote valleys in the Toubkal region. Along the way, keep an eye out for glimpses of Mount Toubkal’s ridgeline in the distance. After a picnic lunch en route, you’ll continue to your overnight stop within the valley, arriving in the late afternoon with plenty of time to relax, explore the village, and enjoy the mountain scenery before dinner.
Settle in for the evening with a traditional home-cooked Berber dinner and mint tea, and rest ahead of day two.
Overnight: Berber guesthouse/gîte in the Azzaden Valley (twin/shared rooms)

Day 2: Azzaden Valley → Imlil Valley → Overnight in Aremd Village
Distance/duration: Approx. 5–6 hours of walking | Elevation range: 1,900m – 2,200m – 1,900m (approx.)
After breakfast, you’ll leave the Azzaden Valley and begin the crossing into the neighboring Imlil Valley. The trail climbs through juniper forest and open mountainside toward a pass connecting the two valleys, offering fantastic views back over Azzaden and, on clear days, across to Mount Toubkal and the surrounding High Atlas peaks. A picnic lunch is taken along the way, typically at a scenic spot with wide valley views.
The afternoon is a gentler descent through pine forest and past small Berber settlements into the Imlil Valley, arriving at Aremd (approx. 1,900m) — one of the largest and most photogenic traditional villages in the region, built into the hillside directly beneath Mount Toubkal’s slopes. With some time to spare before dinner, take a walk through the village’s narrow stone lanes, visit a local shop or bakery, or simply relax and enjoy the mountain views from your guesthouse terrace.
Dinner and overnight are spent in Aremd, with an early night recommended ahead of tomorrow’s summit day.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Aremd village (twin/shared rooms)

Day 3: Aremd → Talamrout Summit (2,700m) → Imlil → Drive to Marrakech
Distance/duration: Approx. 6–7 hours of walking (round trip) | Elevation range: 1,900m – 2,700m – 1,740m | Drive back: approx. 1.5–2 hours
An early start after breakfast gets you on the trail while the morning air is cool and crisp. From Aremd, the route climbs steadily through the Tamatert Valley, passing traditional villages such as Tamatert and Ait Souka, before reaching the Tizi n’Tamatert pass (approx. 2,300m). From here, a further ascent through Moroccan pine forest brings you to the wild, open ridgeline leading to the summit of Adrar Talamrout at 2,700m — the highlight and high point of the entire trek.
At the top, take time to soak in one of the finest panoramas in the region: sweeping views over the Imnane and Imlil valleys, scattered Berber villages on the mountainsides below, and, weather permitting, a clear view of Mount Toubkal itself rising above the surrounding peaks.
After a well-earned rest and a picnic lunch enjoyed amid the mountain scenery, you’ll begin the descent back down toward Imlil (1,740m), retracing part of the route through forest and valley trail. Once in Imlil, your guide will bid you farewell, and your private vehicle will be waiting to drive you back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening — tired, happy, and full of stories from three unforgettable days in the mountains.

Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is this trek? This is a moderate-to-challenging trek best suited to travelers with a reasonable level of fitness and some hiking experience. Days 1 and 2 are steady valley walks of 4–6 hours, while Day 3 is the most demanding, with a round-trip ascent and descent of around 900 metres to reach Talamrout Summit at 2,700m. No technical climbing or mountaineering experience is required, but a good base fitness will make the summit day far more enjoyable.
What is the highest point of the trek? The trek reaches its highest point on Day 3 at the summit of Talamrout, 2,700 metres, via the Tizi n’Tamatert pass (approx. 2,300m).
What is Aremd village like? Aremd is one of the largest traditional villages in the Toubkal region, built on a hillside directly facing Mount Toubkal. It offers comfortable guesthouse accommodation, stunning views, and an authentic glimpse of Berber mountain life, making it a popular overnight stop for trekkers heading into the high peaks.
Do I need previous trekking experience? No prior mountaineering experience is necessary, but this itinerary is best suited to active travelers who walk regularly and are comfortable on multi-hour trails with sustained ascents, particularly for the Day 3 summit push.
What should I pack? Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots, layered clothing for changing mountain temperatures, a warm layer and hat for early mornings and the summit, sun protection, a refillable water bottle, snacks, and a daypack. Trekking poles are recommended, especially for the descents.
What is the accommodation like? You’ll stay in simple, comfortable, family-run Berber guesthouses with twin or shared rooms and shared bathroom facilities — a genuine mountain experience with warm local hospitality and home-cooked meals.
Is this trek suitable year-round? Yes, this route can generally be trekked throughout the year. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions and clearest summit views, summer is warm in the valleys but pleasant at altitude, and winter can bring snow and colder temperatures to Talamrout Summit — in which case proper winter clothing and footwear are essential. Your guide will confirm current conditions ahead of your trip.
Is this trek private, or will I join a group? This itinerary is arranged as a fully private trek for you and your travel companions only, with your own guide and muleteer, and departure dates built around your schedule.
Can this trek be combined with a Mount Toubkal ascent or extended further? Yes. Since the route passes through Imlil, the starting point for Mount Toubkal, this itinerary can easily be extended into a Toubkal summit attempt or a longer High Atlas circuit. Let us know your interests when booking and we’ll adapt the plan accordingly.
