This carefully designed journey combines trekking, cultural immersion, mountain scenery, desert exploration, and historical discovery. Beginning in Marrakech, you will hike through remote Berber valleys and traditional mountain villages where life has remained unchanged for centuries. The adventure continues with an ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa, with an optional ski descent depending on season and snow conditions.
After the mountains, the journey heads south through spectacular valleys and canyons toward the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, where camel rides, golden dunes, and magical desert sunsets await. The final part of the trip explores ancient kasbahs and the beautiful Ounila Valley before returning to Marrakech.
This itinerary offers the perfect balance between trekking, adventure, culture, and comfort, making it an ideal Moroccan experience for active travelers.
After breakfast, departure from Marrakech with a scenic drive toward the High Atlas Mountains via Asni. Arrive at the village of Imi Oughlad where the trekking team and mule handlers will meet you.
Begin your first hike through beautiful mountain landscapes, terraced fields, walnut groves, and traditional Berber hamlets. The trail gradually enters the stunning Azzaden Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the High Atlas.
Continue trekking to the peaceful Berber village of Ait Oumaghmout where you will spend the night in a traditional guesthouse.

After breakfast, continue trekking deeper into the Atlas Mountains along scenic mountain trails with spectacular views over the valley and surrounding peaks.
Pass through several small Berber settlements where you will have opportunities to experience local mountain life and hospitality. The route climbs gradually toward the village of Tizgui.
Arrival in Tizgui in the afternoon and overnight in a traditional mountain guesthouse.

Today’s hike takes you through beautiful juniper forests, mountain streams, and panoramic mountain scenery as you continue across the Atlas foothills.
The route leads to the picturesque village of Tizi Oussem, surrounded by dramatic red mountain cliffs and terraced agriculture. This charming Berber village offers incredible views and authentic cultural experiences.
Enjoy dinner and overnight stay in a local guesthouse.

After breakfast, continue trekking toward Imlil, the famous gateway village to Mount Toubkal National Park.
The trail passes through scenic mountain landscapes and traditional villages before descending into the Imlil Valley. Upon arrival, enjoy time to relax and prepare for the upcoming Toubkal ascent.

Today begins the ascent toward Mount Toubkal Base Camp.
Start trekking from Imlil through the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, an important pilgrimage site for locals. Continue steadily uphill along mountain trails surrounded by spectacular views of the High Atlas range.
Arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (Base Camp) at 3,207m in the afternoon. Rest and prepare for the summit climb.

Early morning departure for the summit ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa.
The climb is challenging but highly rewarding, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the Atlas Mountains and, on clear days, views extending toward the Sahara Desert.
After reaching the summit and enjoying time for photographs and rest, descend back to the refuge. Depending on snow conditions and season, there is an optional ski descent for experienced skiers.

After breakfast, descend from the refuge through rocky mountain trails back toward the Imlil Valley.

Departure from the Atlas Mountains toward southern Morocco.
Drive through spectacular landscapes including the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, traditional Berber villages, and the famous Valley of Roses before arriving at the dramatic Dades Gorges.

After breakfast, continue toward the Sahara Desert passing through Tinghir and the palm groves of the Todra Valley.

Spend the night in a traditional desert camp under the stars with Berber music and local cuisine.

Wake early to enjoy sunrise over the Sahara dunes before returning by camel to Merzouga.

Explore the ancient kasbah and enjoy overnight stay nearby.

This trek is available to be booked independently (including transfers from Marrakech) or we can put together a full itinerary and quote to combine your trek with any of Marrakech, Essaouira, The Atlantic Coast and Sahara Desert
The Accommodation will be in a simple berber Gites And Toubkal Refuge and Campings.
Most of those equipment can be rented locally from our equipment shop in Imlil:
Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.
