Itinerary

Day 1 - Marrakech to Imlil, Trek to Tizi Mzik, Lunch, and Aremd Village

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Marrakech to Imlil, the gateway to the High Atlas Mountains. From Imlil, trek toward the panoramic Tizi Mzik pass, where the rugged beauty of the Atlas range surrounds you. Savor a delicious lunch while enjoying the tranquility of the mountains. Continue to Aremd Village, a picturesque haven nestled in the heart of the mountains, and explore the local Berber lifestyle before settling in for your first night.

  • Distance: Approximately 8-10 km
  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Start at 1,500m, ascend to 2,300m
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Imlil

 

Day 2 - Hike from Aremd to Sidi Chamarouch and Return

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and set out on a hike to the spiritual site of Sidi Chamarouch. Marvel at the scenic trails leading to this serene location, known for its shrine and stunning mountain vistas. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the breathtaking surroundings before returning to Aremd for a relaxing evening in the village.

  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 2310m at Sidi Chamharouch, descend to 2,000m

Day 3 - Trek from Aremd to Tizi n’Tamatert, Explore Imnane Valley

Begin your day with an invigorating trek to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass, where sweeping views of the High Atlas Mountains await. Descend into the picturesque Imnane Valley, surrounded by the unspoiled beauty of the region. After soaking in the views, return to Aremd for your final night in the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the warm hospitality of your hosts.

  • Distance: Approximately 10-12 km
  • Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 2,489m at Ntamatert 2280, descend to 2,000m
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Imlil.

 

Day 4 - Agafay Desert Experience via Kik Plateau then Marrakech

Bid farewell to Aremd and journey through the scenic Kik Plateau toward the Agafay Desert. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the tranquil desert landscape. Experience an optional camel ride or quad biking, adding an adventurous twist to your day. After exploring the Agafay Desert, drive back to Marrakech, where your unforgettable journey concludes.

  • Accommodation: N/A (Return to Marrakech)

This trek is available to be booked independently (including transfers from Marrakech) or we can put together a full itinerary and quote to combine your trek with any of Marrakech, Essaouira, The Atlantic Coast and Sahara Desert

Accommodation

The Accommodation will be in a simple berber Gite at Tizi oussem Village.
Camping is an option if prefered (june-Octo).
NB : If accommodation is required in the Atlas Mountains either before or after the trek, we can always book you at  Dar Adrar in Imlil or in  Eco-loge in Ouirgane or Riad View Point in Marrakech.

  • Good walking boots and socks / good trainers for valley treks
  • Personnel First aid Kit
  • 3 to 4 season sleeping bag ( winter) or light Sleeping bag ( Summer)
  • Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
  • Water bottle or camel back (recommended)
  • Soft-sided bag (50-80 litres)
  • Lightweight daypack

  • Sunscreen
  • Torch and batteries
  • Towel & all personal toiletries

Most of those equipment can be rented locally from our equipment shop in Imlil:

  4.  Walking Poles : 3 €/day/pair   
  5.  Back packs : 3€/day

Start Point ? Finish Point?

  • You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads does not have access by car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
  • You will be droped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel , our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.

What level of fitness is required for this trek?

This trek is suitable for individuals with moderate to high fitness levels. Some sections are challenging but manageable with proper preparation.

When is the best time to trek in the Atlas Mountains?

 The ideal time is from April to October, offering pleasant weather and clear views. Winter months are also possible but may require additional gear for snow.

Are vegetarian or special dietary requirements accommodated?

Yes, dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice. Inform the organizer when booking.

How is luggage managed during the trek?

Mules will carry your main luggage, allowing you to trek with a small daypack containing essentials like water, snacks, and a camera.

How do you book & pay?

Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars  online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.
