Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Sidi Chamharouch – Toubkal Refuge

Your adventure begins with an early morning transfer from Marrakech to the mountain village of Imlil (1,740 m), the main gateway to Mount Toubkal. After meeting your mountain guide and mule team, you will check equipment, adjust skis, and begin your ascent into the High Atlas.

The trail follows the Mizane Valley, gradually gaining altitude through terraced fields and traditional Berber villages. As snow conditions allow, skins are fitted and the journey turns into a true ski tour.

You will pass the sacred shrine of Sidi Chamharouch (2,350 m), an important pilgrimage site set dramatically between steep rock walls. After a short break, the ascent continues steadily towards the high mountain zone.

By mid-afternoon, you arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (Les Mouflons or CAF Refuge – 3,207 m), nestled beneath towering peaks. After settling in, there is time to relax, enjoy hot drinks, review the next day’s route with your guide, and admire the sunset over the Atlas Mountains.

Day 2: Toubkal Refuge – Mount Toubkal Summit – Ski Descent – Imlil – Marrakech

An early alpine start allows for optimal snow conditions. After breakfast, you begin the ascent towards Mount Toubkal’s summit using ski skins. The route climbs steadily through wide snow slopes before reaching the final ridge, where skis may be carried depending on conditions.

Standing on the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m), you are rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the High Atlas range and, on clear days, far towards the Sahara Desert — an unforgettable moment.

After a short break, the highlight of the trip begins: a long, exhilarating ski descent back down to the refuge, offering varied terrain and magnificent scenery. Following a rest and lunch at the refuge, you continue skiing and walking back through the valley towards Imlil.

Your driver will be waiting for the transfer back to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening.

Availability & dates?

The ideal period is January to April, depending on snow conditions. March is often considered the best balance between snow quality and weather stability.

What level is required for this ski tour?

This tour is suitable for experienced ski tourers who are confident skiing red to black runs off-piste and have prior ski touring experience. Good physical fitness is essential.

Do I need previous high-altitude experience?

Previous altitude exposure is helpful but not mandatory. The itinerary is designed to allow gradual acclimatization, but participants should be comfortable above 4,000 meters.

How do you book & pay?

Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.

Is this a private tour?
