Itinerary

Day 1 – Marrakech to Ait Bouguemez Valley

Depart from Marrakech in the morning and travel to the “Happy Valley,” also known as Ait Bouguemez. The scenic drive crosses mountain passes and picturesque landscapes, leading to this charming valley surrounded by terraced fields and traditional Berber homes. Enjoy a warm welcome and dinner at a local guesthouse, where you will spend the night. 

  • Travel Time: Approximately 5-6 hours
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Ait Bouguemez Valley   

Day 2 - Ait Bouguemez to Tarkeddit Plateau

 Begin your trek with a gradual ascent through lush pastures and small villages. The trail becomes steeper as you approach the Tarkeddit Plateau, a vast and beautiful area surrounded by rugged peaks. Set up camp here for the night and enjoy dinner under the stars.

  • Distance: Approximately 15 km
  • Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 2,900m 
  • Accommodation: Camp on the Tarkeddit Plateau

Day 3 - Tarkeddit Plateau to M'Goun Summit and Back to Camp

 Start early for the challenging ascent to the summit of Mount M’Goun. The trail involves steep inclines and high-altitude trekking, but the effort is rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the High Atlas and Saharan landscapes. After celebrating your achievement at the summit, descend back to the Tarkeddit Plateau for a well-earned rest and dinner. 

  • Distance: Approximately 10 km (round trip)
  • Hiking Time: 7-9 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 4,068m and return to 2,900m 
  • Accommodation: Camp on the Tarkeddit Plateau

Day 4 - Tarkeddit Plateau to Oulilimt Valley

Descend from the plateau into the Oulilimt Valley, passing through dramatic gorges and lush green pastures. The valley is dotted with shepherd camps and offers serene views of the surrounding mountains. Set up camp in this tranquil location and enjoy dinner prepared by your trekking team.

  • Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Elevation Change: Descend to 2,400m
  • Accommodation: Camp in Oulilimt Valley

Day 5 - Oulilimt Valley to Ait Bouguemez Valley

Continue your trek through the Oulilimt Valley, eventually arriving back in the Ait Bouguemez Valley. The final stretch offers stunning views of terraced fields and Berber villages. Enjoy a celebratory dinner and overnight stay at a guesthouse.

  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation Change: Gradual descent 
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Ait Bouguemez Valley

Day 6 - Ait Bouguemez Valley to Marrakech

After breakfast, bid farewell to your trekking team and begin the journey back to Marrakech. Pass through scenic mountain roads and arrive in the city by late afternoon, concluding your adventure.

  • Accommodation: N/A (Return to Marrakech)

This trek is available to be booked independently (including transfers from Marrakech) 

Accommodation

The Accommodation will be in a simple berber Gites And Camps and Refuge
NB : If accommodation is required in the Atlas Mountains either before or after the trek, we can always book you at our Riad In Marrakech.

  • Good walking boots and socks / good trainers for valley treks
  • Personnel First aid Kit
  • 3 to 4 season sleeping bag ( winter) or light Sleeping bag ( Summer)
  • Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
  • Water bottle or camel back (recommended)
  • Soft-sided bag (50-80 litres)
  • Lightweight daypack
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Torch and batteries
  • Towel & all personal toiletries

Most of those equipment can be rented locally from our equipment shop in Imlil:

  1.  Walking boots : 5 €/day
  2.  Sleeping bags : 2.5 €/day
  3.  Rain Jackets : 3 €/day
  4.  Walking Poles : 3 €/day/pair   
  5.  Back packs : 3€/day

Start Point ? Finish Point?

  • You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads does not have access by car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
  • You will be droped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel , our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.

How do you book & pay?

Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars  online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.
