Climbing Mount Toubkal over a weekend 2 Days is one of the most rewarding adventures you can experience from Marrakech. In just two days, you can stand on the roof of North Africa at 4,167 metres, gaze across the endless ridges of the High Atlas Mountains, and breathe in the crisp alpine air that makes this journey so unforgettable. For travellers with limited time — or for those simply looking for a short but powerful break from the city — this weekend ascent offers the perfect blend of challenge, beauty, and cultural discovery.
The adventure begins in the peaceful village of Imlil, the heart of trekking in Morocco. Within moments of leaving Marrakech, you find yourself walking through walnut groves, terraced fields, and traditional Berber settlements tucked into dramatic mountain landscapes. As you ascend towards the refuge, the scenery becomes wilder and more rugged, with sweeping views, high ridges, and the unmistakable tranquillity of the High Atlas. Evenings at the mountain refuge bring a warm meal, shared stories, and the excitement of tomorrow’s summit.
our weekend adventure begins with an early morning transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740 m), the gateway to the High Atlas Mountains. Here you meet your expert local guide and mule team before starting the scenic trek towards the Toubkal Refuge.
The trail leads through Aroumd Village, past terraced fields and traditional stone houses, surrounded by towering mountain peaks. As you continue towards Sidi Chamharouch, a small white-domed shrine set beside a rushing mountain stream, the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic. After a lunch stop, the path climbs gradually into alpine terrain, offering impressive views of the surrounding peaks.
By late afternoon, you arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m), set at the foot of the mountain. After settling in, enjoy a hearty dinner prepared by your cook. The night is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for the early morning summit push.
Walking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Mountain refuge
Meals included: Lunch & dinner
Your summit attempt begins before sunrise. Equipped with headlamps and warm layers, you ascend the steep rocky trail that leads to the high ridge. As dawn breaks, spectacular colours shine across the Atlas range, illuminating the final steps to the summit.
Reaching the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, is an unforgettable moment. From the top, you can see the vast Sahara Desert stretching south and the Atlantic coastline fading into the horizon. After celebrating and taking breathtaking photos, you descend back to the refuge for a well-earned breakfast.
The trail then continues down to Imlil, where your driver awaits. By late afternoon, you return to Marrakech — just in time to enjoy a relaxing evening, a hammam session, or a celebratory dinner on a rooftop overlooking Jemaa el-Fnaa.
Walking time: 9–10 hours (summit + descent)
Meals included: Breakfast & lunch
