Itinerary

Day 1 - Marrakech to Agersioual and Hike to Tacheddirt

 Begin your journey with a morning transfer from Marrakech to Agersioual, a scenic drive of about 1.5 hours. At Agersioual, meet your guide and muleteers, then start trekking through beautiful trails. The route winds through traditional Berber villages and terraced fields, ascending steadily to Tachedirt, the highest village in North Africa. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding peaks and settle into a local guesthouse for dinner and an overnight stay. 

  • Distance: Approximately 8-10 km
  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Start at 1,500m, ascend to 2,300m
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Tacheddirt

 

Day 2 - Tachedirt to Aremd Village in Imlil Valley

After a hearty breakfast, set out on a trek through the serene Tidli forest. The trail alternates between shaded pathways and open vistas, revealing the lush valleys below. Pass through picturesque landscapes and descend into the Imlil Valley, a hub of Berber culture. Arrive at Aremd Village, a charming settlement surrounded by orchards and gardens. Relax with a home-cooked meal and spend the night in a guesthouse. 

  • Distance: Approximately 10-12 km
  • Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 2,489m at Tizi Mzik, descend to 2,000m
  • Accommodation: Guesthouse in Azzaden Valley.

Day 3 - Imlil Valley to Azzaden Valley via Tizi Mzik Pass

 Leave Aremd Village and begin a challenging ascent to the Tizi Mzik Pass at 2,489 meters. The climb is steep but offers spectacular panoramic views of the Atlas range. After a brief rest at the pass, descend into the vibrant Azzaden Valley, renowned for its terraced fields and red clay villages. Spend the night in a traditional guesthouse, savoring local cuisine and hospitality.

  • Elevation Gain: Ascend to 2,489m at Tizi Mzik, descend to 2,000m

Day 4 - Tizi Oussem to Tizi Oudid and Return to Marrakech

Start your final day with a trek from Tizi Oussem to Tizi Oudid. The route is a mix of gentle slopes and scenic views, passing through remote villages and lush landscapes. Descend to Imlil, where you’ll enjoy a final lunch before transferring back to Marrakech. The drive back takes approximately 1.5 hours, bringing your adventure to a close as you arrive in the vibrant city. 

  • Distance: Approximately 9-11 km
  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Elevatio Gain: Ascend to 2,100m, descend to 1,740m
  • Accommodation: N/A (Return to Marrakech)

Accommodation

The Accommodation will be in a simple berber Gite at Tizi oussem Village.
Camping is an option if prefered (june-Octo).
NB : If accommodation is required in the Atlas Mountains either before or after the trek, we can always book you at  Dar Adrar in Imlil or in  Eco-loge in Ouirgane or Riad View Point in Marrakech.

  • Good walking boots and socks / good trainers for valley treks

  • 3 to 4 season sleeping bag ( winter) or light Sleeping bag ( Summer)
  • Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
  • Water bottle or camel back (recommended)
  • Soft-sided bag (50-80 litres)

  • Towel & all personal toiletries

Most of those equipment can be rented locally from our equipment shop in Imlil:

Start Point ? Finish Point?

  • You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city, many riads does not have access by car so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.
  • You will be droped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel , our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.

What level of fitness is required for this trek?

This trek is suitable for individuals with moderate to high fitness levels. Some sections are challenging but manageable with proper preparation.

When is the best time to trek in the Atlas Mountains?

 The ideal time is from April to October, offering pleasant weather and clear views. Winter months are also possible but may require additional gear for snow.

Are vegetarian or special dietary requirements accommodated?

Yes, dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice. Inform the organizer when booking.

How is luggage managed during the trek?

Mules will carry your main luggage, allowing you to trek with a small daypack containing essentials like water, snacks, and a camera.

How do you book & pay?

Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars  online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.
