3 Day High Atlas Mountains Ski Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Sidi Chamharouch – Toubkal Refuge

Early morning transfer from Marrakech to the Berber village of Imlil (1,740 m). After meeting your guide and mule team, a full equipment check is conducted before beginning the ascent into the High Atlas.

The trail climbs gently through terraced valleys and traditional villages, gradually transitioning into a snowy alpine environment. Depending on snow conditions, skis are fitted from mid-valley onward.

You pass the sacred site of Sidi Chamharouch (2,350 m), set dramatically between towering cliffs. After a rest and lunch, the route continues steadily to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m).

Upon arrival, enjoy hot drinks, relax, and review the upcoming days with your guide while admiring sunset views over the Atlas Mountains.

  • Overnight: Toubkal Refuge (Les Mouflons or CAF)
  • Meals: Lunch, dinner
  • Driving time: ~1.5 hrs
  • Walking / skiing time: 4–5 hrs
  • Elevation gain: +900 m
  • Max altitude: 3,207 m

Day 2: Acclimatization Ski Tour – Surrounding Peaks (3,800–4,000 m)

This day is dedicated to acclimatization and technical preparation, significantly increasing comfort and summit success on Day 3.

After breakfast, you set out on a half-day ski tour to one of the surrounding peaks, such as Toubkal West, Ras Ouanoukrim approach, or a high col above the refuge, depending on snow and group level.

The ascent allows you to practice efficient skinning techniques at altitude, while the descent offers enjoyable skiing on varied terrain. After returning to the refuge for lunch, the afternoon is free to rest, hydrate, and prepare equipment.

Your guide provides a detailed briefing on the summit day route, weather, and safety procedures.

  • Overnight: Toubkal Refuge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
  • Ski time: 4–6 hrs
  • Elevation gain/loss: ±600–800 m

Day 3: Mount Toubkal Summit – Ski Descent – Imlil – Marrakech

An early start ensures the best snow conditions. After breakfast, you begin the ascent toward Mount Toubkal’s summit using skins. The route climbs steadily through broad snow slopes before reaching steeper sections near the summit ridge, where skis may be carried briefly if required.

Reaching the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) is a powerful moment, offering sweeping views across the Atlas range and towards the Sahara on clear days.

After a short summit break, you enjoy a long, continuous ski descent back to the refuge — one of the longest ski runs in North Africa. After a rest and lunch, the descent continues through the Mizane Valley back to Imlil.

Transfer back to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening.
