Your journey begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where you’ll be greeted by a professional guide who will accompany you throughout the trip. From Marrakech, you’ll venture into the majestic High Atlas Mountains, starting in the picturesque village of Imlil. Hike along well-maintained trails, passing through traditional Berber villages and lush valleys, as you make your way towards the Toubkal Refuge.

The trek to the Toubkal Refuge provides breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscapes, dotted with terraced fields and rugged peaks. Your experienced mountain guide will share their knowledge of the region, pointing out notable landmarks and offering insights into the local culture and environment. After a night at the refuge, wake up early for an exhilarating ascent to the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Toubkal Refuge

In the morning, after enjoying breakfast at your hotel in Marrakech, you will be picked up by your driver at 9 AM. The journey begins as you leave the bustling city behind and head towards the picturesque High Atlas Mountains. After approximately 67 kilometers, you will arrive at Imlil, a charming Berber village situated at an altitude of 1740 meters. Here, you will meet the team of guides and muleteers who will accompany you during this incredible adventure.

 

Once you arrive in Imlil, the muleteers will take care of your luggage and all the necessary equipment for the trek. After a short break, you will start your hike accompanied by an experienced mountain guide. Following a mule track, you will pass through Berber villages, immersing yourself in the local culture and enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. As you ascend, you will also visit the shrine of Sidi Chamhrouch at an altitude of 2500 meters.

A delicious picnic lunch, prepared in advance by your cook, will be served at the shrine. After a short rest, you will continue your trek towards the Toubkal Refuge, located at an altitude of 3200 meters. As the mules move faster, the muleteers and cook will pass you and await your arrival at the refuge or camp. Upon reaching the refuge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing mint tea while taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery. You will have the option to take a hot shower to freshen up before settling in for the night. During the summer season, there is also the possibility to spend the night in tents.

Day 2: Toubkal Refuge - Toubkal Summit - Imlil

On the second day, you will wake up early to begin the ascent to the summit of Mount Toubkal. After having breakfast around 5:00 AM, you will start the climb at 5:30 AM to avoid the scorching sun. Each person may need to pack their own pack-lunch for the day.

As you make your way up the mountain, step by step, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains, resembling a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding valleys and Berber villages. After approximately 3 to 4 hours of uphill trekking, you will reach the summit. Here, you will have a well-deserved break of around 45 minutes to capture stunning photographs and savor the panoramic vistas. Afterward, you will descend back to the refuge, where a diverse lunch will be waiting for you.

Following lunch, you will begin your descent towards Imlil, retracing your steps through the picturesque landscapes. Once you reach Imlil, you will settle into a cozy guesthouse in the Berber village, where you can relax and reflect on the day’s achievements.

Day 3: Imlil - Ouarzazate - Dades Gorge

After a hearty breakfast, you will depart from Imlil village at 8:00 AM in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. The journey takes you over the majestic Atlas Mountains, offering magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its well-preserved mud-brick architecture.

Continuing your drive, you will reach the city of Ouarzazate, where you can enjoy a lunch break and explore the local attractions. Ouarzazate is often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to its role as a popular filming location for many movies and TV shows.

Afterward, you will continue along the scenic route of the Dades Valley, renowned for its stunning landscapes and rock formations. Finally, you will arrive at a guesthouse in the Dades Gorge, where you will spend the night. The guesthouse offers private ensuite rooms, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay. An evening meal and breakfast are included, allowing you to savor the local cuisine.

Day 4: Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Merzouga Erg Chebbi

On the fourth day, you will set out to explore the captivating Dades Gorge and Todra Gorge, renowned for their dramatic rock formations carved by the flowing rivers. You will have the opportunity to admire the natural beauty and take memorable photographs at these iconic sites.

Continuing your journey, you will make your way to Merzouga, a small village on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Upon arrival, you will meet the camels that will accompany you on a 1.5-hour camel trek into the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi dunes. Riding your own camel, you will traverse the golden sands, immersing yourself in the tranquility ofthe desert landscape.

As the sun begins to set, you will reach a picturesque vantage point atop the dunes. Here, you will have the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunset over the vast expanse of the Sahara Desert. The hues of orange, pink, and purple painting the sky create a truly magical atmosphere.

After enjoying the sunset, you will continue your camel trek to a desert camp located amidst the dunes. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with traditional Moroccan hospitality, including refreshing mint tea. The camp consists of comfortable and traditional Berber-style tents equipped with beds, blankets, and pillows.

In the evening, a delicious dinner will be served around a campfire, accompanied by traditional music and drumming. You can relax under the starlit sky, listen to captivating stories, and engage in lively conversations with fellow travelers. This is a unique opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of the nomadic Berber people

Day 5: Merzouga Erg Chebbi - Marrakech

On the final day of your tour, you will wake up early to witness the mesmerizing sunrise over the sand dunes. The early morning light creates a stunning play of shadows and colors, casting a magical glow over the desert landscape. It’s a truly unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe of nature’s beauty.

After breakfast at the desert camp, you will bid farewell to the Sahara Desert and embark on your journey back to Marrakech. The return route takes you through the stony desert, offering a different perspective of the landscape. You will also cross the Atlas Mountains once again, enjoying the scenic views along the way.

Throughout the journey, there will be several stops for rest, refreshments, and photo opportunities. You will have the chance to explore local villages, interact with the friendly locals, and perhaps purchase some souvenirs to commemorate your trip.

Finally, in the late afternoon, you will arrive back in Marrakech, where your unforgettable Toubkal and Sahara Desert adventure comes to an end. You will be dropped off at your hotel or preferred location, and you can reflect on the incredible memories and experiences you’ve gained during this immersive journey.

Alternatively, we can create a comprehensive itinerary for you, combining your trek with visits to Marrakech, Essaouira, the Atlantic Coast, and the Sahara Desert. Start Point & Finish Point?

To ensure a convenient and hassle-free experience, we provide pick-up and drop-off services from your accommodation in Marrakech city. Please note that some riads may not have direct car access, so our driver will park nearby and come to meet you at a designated meeting point.

At the start of the trek, our driver will pick you up from your riad/hotel in Marrakech. If your riad is not easily accessible by car, our driver will arrange to meet you at a convenient location nearby. To facilitate a smooth pick-up, our driver can also call your riad to coordinate the meeting if necessary.

At the end of the trek, you will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad/hotel. Our driver will ensure that you are safely returned to your accommodation. If required, our driver can contact your riad in advance to make arrangements for a seamless drop-off.

Food during the trek ?

-you can expect freshly prepared and nutritious meals cooked by the Berber muleteers. Here are some examples of the meals served:

– Breakfast: Jam, bread, cookies, fruit, juice, butter, coffee, and milk.
– Lunch: Salad, tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta, fish (such as sardines or tuna), and seasonal fruit.
– Dinner: Soup, traditional Moroccan tajine, couscous, olives, nuts, and fruit.

If you have any specific dietary requirements, they can be accommodated. Please inform us of your preferences when you confirm your booking, and kindly remind your guide and cook about your requirements on the first day of the trek to ensure they are properly addressed.

What's about the luggages during the trek ?

During the trek, personal baggage, cooking equipment, and food are transported by the mules. This means you will only need to carry a rucksack containing essential items for the day.

If you have any excess or unnecessary luggage, you can securely store it in our storage facility in Imlil until you return from the trek. This ensures that your belongings are kept safe and allows you to travel with a lighter load during the trek

Essential Equipment / Kit Hire

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable hiking experience, it is important to have the following equipment:

– Good walking boots and socks / good trainers for valley treks
– Personal First Aid Kit
– 3 to 4 season sleeping bag (for winter treks) or light sleeping bag (for summer treks)
– Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
– Water bottle or camelback (recommended)
– Soft-sided bag (50-80 litres)
– Lightweight daypack
– Sunglasses – Sunscreen
– Torch and batteries
– Towel
– All personal toiletries 

– Crampons and Ice Axe Winter season   

Additionally, depending on the specific requirements and weather conditions, you may also consider the following items:

– Hiking poles for extra stability and support
– Hat or cap for sun protection
– Gloves and a hat for colder temperatures
– Warm layers (fleece jacket, thermal clothing) for colder seasons
– Quick-drying and moisture-wicking clothing for comfort during the trek

How do you book & pay?

Find the trek you are interested in then contact us via E-mail to discuss your trek and check availability. Once the details of your trek (duration, route and number of people) have been agreed, we will make a provisional booking, giving the dates and cost.
To confirm your booking we ask you to pay a 20% deposit. This can be in Euros, pounds sterling or US dollars  online via bank account. The balance is paid in Morocco by cash – again in Euros, sterling or dollars – at the beginning of the trek.
NB: if you can’t carry cash, you can always pay again the balance online by bank few days before departure.
